Hello … I have a question for discussion, aimed more at new owners of Knaus vehicles. A Bluuwater water filter is fitted in these vehicles, which has a very simple design but uses a specific coupling for the filter.
After hours of research and a few technical discussions, I’m now in a position to say – though I still hope I’m wrong – that this was a deliberate decision by Knaus to allow only their own filters. So you’re forced to keep using an ALB filter.
Now, there have been a number of isolated enquiries asking whether an ALB adapter might also be available for this. I myself have become very convinced of the merits of the ALB filter system, which is why I can understand this request.
Apart from the fact that you might not want to use an ALB filter for this, there are exactly two possible solutions.
Option A: You remove the Knaus coupling and fit a Gardena coupling directly onto the hose, which you can then easily connect to the filter. This is a solid, long-term solution which, with proper guidance, anyone can carry out themselves.
Option B: I have produced an attachment for the ALB using a special printing process. The attachment fits exactly into the Knaus coupling. HOWEVER, this approach has drawbacks and, for me, is only economically viable in terms of price if produced in larger quantities. One drawback is the expected lifespan due to the printing process, as well as health and safety concerns. It will therefore probably need to be replaced after 24 months at the latest (long-term tests are not yet available).
My question to you, Füchse
Personally, I’m strongly inclined NOT to pursue Option B – i.e. the simple fitting – any further, and would rather recommend Option A, even though I don’t earn anything from it. What do you think? Feel free to share your thoughts via the comments section.
